As an Alpine region, Valais is characterised by contradictory dynamics. It was through observation of its landscapes that a mythical Alpine imagery began to take shape in the 18th century. It has also been a prime location for research by naturalists of all kinds. Today, Valais is at the forefront of global warming and heavily anthropized. Hence its inhabitants and users of all kinds are forced to look to the future and imagine modes of development based on sustainability. The long timeframe of natural sciences is in conflict with a situation of emergency, characterized by environmental problems, whose human and non-human consequences must be anticipated.
Based on this observation, Valais-fiction aims to produce a new kind of narrative combining science fiction with information gathered during walks, discussions and interviews. The project focuses more specifically on the Trient Valley, its habitats and its inhabitants of all species.
